Manifesto
Leaders aren't born, they are made.
Becoming a great leader is equivalent to becoming yourself. It’s that simple, and it’s also quite complicated. Leadership is a choice and a privilege, and it requires work to BE the purposeful, impactful leader you intend to be.
So, if we aren’t working to manifest our best selves, then no one around us will be inspired to do so either.
Why a Manifesto?
A manifesto is a declaration of purpose: a grounding, foundational piece of writing from which you can root yourself, and return to again and again. It’s a living document that represents what you stand for — not only for your own reference, but to guide your relationships with your clients, teams, family, friends, and everyone else in your life.
It's the ultimate gift to oneself
The process of writing a manifesto is almost as important as the end product itself. If you do it right, it’s an engaging, creative, and downright fun experience that takes you through every nook and cranny of your life as a leader, reaching all the way back to your childhood. It forces you to reckon with who you once were, who you are, and who you aspire to be. And in the process, you get to see yourself as others see you.
When writing a personal leadership manifesto, I encourage you to look inside yourself for the answers that you’ll eventually put into writing. It’s all in there. You just have to draw it out. And sometimes, that means literally drawing. (I don't do anything if not fun!)
Once you’ve written a manifesto (though you’re encouraged to tweak it as the years go by), it becomes your life, career and leadership manual — a map helping to navigate moving forward. It’s your own personal set of instructions to keep you pointed toward your North Star.
Which is pretty damn cool.
Think about it: If you don’t know what you stand for as a leader, then how are you leading your teams? Your direct reports? Your colleagues? Your kids?
Ready to tap into your greatness and purpose?
The only hitch? A Manifesto takes work. And especially if you’re not a natural writer, staring at that blank page can be pretty intimidating. The solution? Don’t treat your manifesto like a writing assignment.
Treat your manifesto like a personal creative project.
